Today we decided to do a bit of spring cleaning in the cafe and rearrange all things that are needed to be rearranged. Those who came were namely me, Julie, Rishi, Kecik, Roland, Am and Syafiq. Actually at first we planned to do a brainstorming session before anything else but instead we went straight to clean the kitchen area. Am and Syafiq were responsible for the cold kitchen side while the rest were at the hot kitchen side. We cleaned and arranged the crockery, pots and pans to be in order. Now the kitchen is-we can safely say-looking like a real kitchen..Being organized and all...hahah
News of our catering service reached to the ears of the current Persatuan Sindrom Down Malaysia(PSDM) President(my mother). She asked whether Embun Cafe could cater for an event on Sunday the first of March. We are still deliberating on the matter because we still need to gauge our capabilities but it is a good opportunity for us to make money. Hopefully everything goes well.
This ends my report for the day. Tommorow hopefully we can settle a few more stuff.

Embun Catering??
Yesterday, Embun Cafe catered for an event held by the UniTAR Chinese Student Association(UCSA). The order was Fried Mee and Bihun and two cases of drinks for 50 pax. Beforehand we didn't really know how to make both of the dishes, so last Sunday we decided to try and cook both of the dishes. The result was encouraging. We are now able to cook Fried Mee and Bihun which is great because other than the fact that we are able to cater for the UCSA event or any other event that wants these two dishes, we are actually thinking to add few 'heavy' menu for our breakfast line-up. So we are now able to cook Nasi Lemak, Fried Mee and Fried Bihun. If this continues, we can build our menu up and not have the same thing day after day.
While clearing up after the event had finished, we were approached by a student who wanted to know more on the catering. He was from the 'Khidmat Masyarakat' class. He was asking whether we could make Nasi Ayam for 45 pax. I was thinking, "Hmmm we might have something here". Nturally the catering business if profitable and if we could add that up to our daily sales it would be great.
hahah till next time then

This might be our best route in business!!

Food Tasting Day = Crazy Day
I reached cafe 7.45am and took out all raw materials for preparation. I sat down and had my breakfast which I bought on my way to the cafe. People started to arrive and everything seems to be fine. The new chef was here today and he definitely did a great job in producing good food. We started to work at 8.30 in the morning and got everything done by 12. Everything was fine except for certain small detail like someone came in trying to give us some hard time. Today was first day so I guess it was okay.
Lecturers came in for food tasting around 1 and comments were flying all over. You just need to run around to catch them. Haha.. In this case, darling was the runner I guess. I was busy running around in the kitchen, thank God darling and Rishi were there. Everything turned out fine, way better than I thought it would be. I was so happy at the end of the day.
I'm currently in a shutting down mode, hopefully I can write more details next time. Continue to pray for me:)

The Beginning
I'm starting up this blog in hope to record my journey running the cafe with my dearest boyfriend and fellow friends.
We discussed about idea of running the cafe few months back when the cafe was not doing so well. We liked the concept of the cafe and felt that it's sad to see the cafe closing down. After all the discussions, we went to see some related people to gain some information on the cafe. Suddenly I got excited and decided to try running the cafe. We told prof that we're going to take over the cafe and try to run it for a semester. We have no turning back already as we found out that half of the faculty know that we're opening the cafe. Decisions needed to be made fast but exam took my attention away from the cafe and the cameron trip took my time to actually sit down and plan for the cafe. When I was finally free, I flew back to Sabah for holiday. Everything need to be done while I was there when the rest are here.
As time goes by, we are nearing opening already. Embun Cafe is the result of everybody's hard work and I hope it will do well in the future days.
Tomorrow is the food tasting day for all lecturers. Pray for us.
p/s: Let's hope that I have time and not too tired to update everyday :p
